New Breakthrough in Medicine of Carbon Fiber Composite Materials

Carbon fiber products are made of high-performance carbon fiber composite materials. Compared with products made of other materials, carbon fiber products integrate lightweight, strength, corrosion resistance, and other characteristics, achieving a true "fish and bear's paw at the same time".

At present, carbon fiber materials have been widely used in various industries, including automotive manufacturing, rail transit, aerospace, and construction industries. But carbon fiber materials have also shown extraordinary effects in the medical field.

1. Imaging equipment

Medical CT bed boards often use insulated electrical boards, but their radiation transmittance is low, mechanical properties are poor, and imaging clarity is poor. The absorption and scattering rates of carbon fiber composite materials are much smaller compared to them. In diagnosis, the X-ray dose can be correspondingly reduced, the power of the X-ray machine can be reduced, the service life of the instrument can be extended, and electrical energy can be saved.

2. Surgical instruments

The general surgical instrument materials are tungsten carbon steel, aluminum, and titanium. Nowadays, carbon fiber composite materials are also used in the manufacturing of surgical instruments, such as forceps, retracters, and scissors. These instruments also require a lightweight and reliable material, but also a sterile and non reactive material with body fluids. Carbon fiber is an excellent choice for surgical instruments as it can be easily disinfected, non corrosive, and resistant to high temperatures.

3. Artificial limb application

The connecting transmission part between the prosthetic limb and the human body is called the receptive cavity, which mainly encapsulates the residual limb and transmits strength. This part has high load-bearing requirements and should not be too heavy, and carbon fiber materials can also be used as materials for making this part. The part that contains the residual limb can be made of polyethylene sheet, and the support body can be made of carbon fiber frame structure, achieving easy support and power transmission.

4. Carbon fiber wheelchair

Wheelchairs must be durable and durable. The only way to achieve this is to manufacture them with steel or titanium - they are hard but heavy. Fibers have the same strength as steel, but are much lighter. In addition, carbon fiber also has strong corrosion resistance, and a considerable proportion of wheelchair patients face problems such as urinary and fecal incontinence and frequent contact with injections and medication. In this case, carbon fiber composite materials exhibit durability that ordinary metal materials cannot match.

5. Medical implants

The range of implants is wide, from heart monitors to pacemakers. Implants require small size, light weight, and durability. Carbon fiber can achieve all of this, and there is also an important advantage: it has biocompatibility. Biocompatibility is crucial, otherwise the body will strongly reject any foreign substances. Carbon fibers can stay in the body for several years without triggering any immune response.
