As is well known, carbon fiber is generally used in the fields of aerospace, automotive manufacturing, sports equipment, and so on. However, it also plays a significant role in the construction field, unlike previous building reinforcement. This time, carbon fiber has shown great skill in the construction itself.
1. Apple store: enthusiasts of carbon fiber roofs
A major feature of the Stephen Jobs Theater, located at Apple headquarters in California, is the roof made of carbon fiber material. The entire roof structure has a diameter of approximately 47 meters and weighs 80 tons, making it the largest carbon fiber roof in the world.
Apple uses carbon fiber materials to make the roof as light and thin as possible, and presents a visual effect of floating in the air. Therefore, the glass structure of the exterior wall of the theater can withstand the weight of the roof and ensure its stability and firmness, presenting the effect of floating the roof.
The circular roof consists of 44 fan-shaped panels, approximately 21 meters long and 3 meters wide, spliced around a circular hub structure. This splicing structure completely removes the steel structure and directly uses carbon fiber sheet as the roof shell, while the splicing structure is convenient for transportation and installation. These panels are shipped by sea from Dubai to Apple headquarters and assembled on-site before being lifted in one go. 2. The first 35mm thick carbon fiber roof designed in China Anaya Jinshanling Upper Courtyard was designed by Dashe Architectural Design Firm. This roof is composed of a composite layer, waterproof layer, decorative layer, and a 35mm thick ultra-light carbon fiber component product with three layers in one. A 35mm thick carbon fiber product can withstand a load of 200kg/㎡ with its own weight of 10kg/㎡,meet the load design requirements of the roof. During the on-site assembly process, workers only need to make bolt connections to complete the positioning and installation of the module. The final 177 square meter hyperbolic carbon fiber roof lifting operation was completed in just 24 hours, and the entire process was very efficient.
